และอีก 28 ปีต่อมาในวันที่ 16 ธันวาคม ปี 2007 (วันนี้ในอดีต) Dan Fogelberg ศิลปินเจ้าของเพลงนี้ก็เสียชีวิตลงด้วยโรคมะเร็งต่อมลูกหมากในวัย 56 ปี
"Longer" เป็นเพลงที่ได้รับความนิยมสูงสุดของเขา ขึ้นถึงอันดับ 2 โดยมีเพลง Crazy Little Thing Called Love ของ Queen เป็นหอกข้างแคร่อยู่อันดับ 1
Dan Fogelberg แต่งเพลงนี้ระหว่างพักผ่อนในวันหยุดที่ Hawaii ตอนนั้นเขานอนเล่นอยู่บนเปลญวนมองดูดวงดาวบนท้องฟ้า เขาภาวนาให้ความรักของเขาที่มีต่อ Maggie Slaymaker แฟนสาวในขณะนั้นมีความสุขและยั่งยืนตลอดไป จึงเขียนเพลงโดยนำเอาสิ่งต่างๆรอบๆตัว เช่น นก ปลา ดวงดาว ภูเขา ต้นไม้ มาเปรียบเปรยเกับความรักของเขาได้อย่างสวยงาม

Maggie คือหญิงสาวที่ Dan Fogelberg กินอยู่ด้วยกันในช่วงเวลานั้น(1979) และมาแต่งงานกันในปี 1982 แต่ก็แยกทางกันในปี 1985 บางทีความจริงกับความฝันก็สวนทางกันเสมอ
Dan Fogelberg จากไปวันนี้ในปี 2007 ด้วยโรคมะเร็งต่อมลูกหมากซึ่งกลับมาเล่นงานเขาอีกครั้งหลังจากที่เคยประกาศชัยชนะเหนือมะเร็งตัวนี้ในปี 2005 วันนี้ครบรอบ 15 ปีที่เขาจากไปในวัย 56 ปี #RIP
